TaeKwonDo (foot-hand-way) means literally "the art of the feet and the hands" or "the art of kicking and punching." It is not just martial arts, but a whole culture with its own philosophy and values. It is not surprising that this type of martial art gained immense popularity around the world and in less than 50 years it became an Olympic sport. And in Mirny sport group of Taekwondo has been working for more than 12 years under the guidance of experienced trainers, which allows its trainees to take prizes at various competitions.


Taekwondo is well known to everyone, but if you do not delve into this sport, then you do not think about its philosophy. "Tae" means "foot" or "to strike with the feet". "Kwon" means "hand", or "to strike with the hand". "Do" means discipline, art, or way. Taekwondo does not use weapons, as it is assumed that the body itself is a powerful weapon.

Wins to children, joy to parents

In Mirny, boys and girls from 5 years old are engaged in taekwondo at the Olimp sports center of the ALROSA Sports and Cultural Complex bringing joy to coaches and parents with their wins and high results.

So, the trainees participated in the Championship of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia), in the Far Eastern Federal District Championships in Khabarovsk and Vladivostok, where they occupied both first and third places (Olesya Neskuba - 1st place). The ALROSA Sports and Cultural Complex pupils also participated in the International Tournament in July 2019 in Sokcho, Gangwon-do Province of South Korea (Valera Shelekhov ranked second, Olesya Neskuba third).

In early November, the Olimp center hosted a taekwondo tournament dedicated to National Unity Day, in which a total of 45 children took part, 39 medals were competed in 8 weight categories. But this November, full of events for athletes did not end. November 8 – 12 a seminar was held in Mirny, at which the technique and sparring between the pupils of the sport section were worked out. Athletes passed the exam for new belts under the head coach of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) Gavril Modestovich Sivtsev, chairman of the certification committee, who has the 5th dan rank in taekwondo. As a result of certification, 39 children received a new dan.

The question that worries both the parents of young athletes and those who want to do taekwondo as adults: how traumatic is this sport?

ALROSA Sports and Cultural Complex Taekwondo coach Viktoria Kazarina answered:

- Like any kind of martial arts, there are risks. However, here the protection is close to the maximum mark. This is a helmet, vest, pads on the shin, forearm, outside - on the wrist, protection on the foot, a bandage for boys.

In order to practice taekwondo, you do not need to have physical strength, special weight or other anatomical features. There are so many techniques and methods in this sport that for each of its participants there is an individual complex taking into account his/her physiological characteristics.

If the older generation is not able to compete with the leaders of this type of martial arts in Russia, then the growing promising youth and children are an opportunity to look at the future of taekwondo in Yakutia with optimism. This was repeatedly mentioned by Honored Master of Sports of Russia, three-time champion of the Russian Federation, bronze medalist of the European and World Championships Ruslan Poiseev.

In addition to children, adults can also go in for martial arts - now there is a Taekwondo group for women from 17 years old on the basis of the Olimp center. What do you need to start doing taekwondo? You just need to come to the gym. And then everything will depend on your own decisiveness and experience of the coach. And for this, Viktoria Kazarina developed her own training system that combines elements of fitness and taekwondo. The coach did not disclose all the secrets, but we strongly recommend trying an unusual form of physical activity. In this way, you can kill two birds with one stone - to condition yourself and master the technique of self-defense.
