On April 6, the Ministry for External Relations and Ethnic Affairs of the Sakha Republic (Yakutia) hosted a meeting with the Head of Foreign Trade and International Cooperation Department of the Administration of Gyeongsangbuk-do Province of the Republic of Korea, Mr. Kim Kwan-hong and representatives of the NEAR Secretariat (Association of North East Asia Regional Governments).

The main objective of the visit is the signing of an employment contract and an order for the appointment of a new Secretary General of the Association.

Recall that since October last year, the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) is the presiding region of the Association for 2018-2020. In this regard, as the presiding region, the republic officially approves the new Secretary General.

Mr. Kim Kwan-hong handed over a letter of thanks to the Head of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) Aisen Nikolaev from the Secretary General of NEAR, Mr. Jong-kyoung Hong. On May 10, 2019, the current Secretary General resigns due to the expiration of the contract.

During the time that he headed the Association Secretariat, measures were taken to strengthen cooperation with the Russian regions. Last year, the First Russian-Korean Forum on Interregional Cooperation was held in Pohang, a Protocol of Intent was signed between the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) and Jeollanam-do Province of South Korea.
