The head of Yakutia, Aisen Nikolaev, signed a decree on the 'North' Research and Educational Center creation for the development of the Arctic and Subarctic. At a meeting on the implementation of national projects in the republic on September 17, he outlined the goals and objectives of the new institution.
It is expected that the 'North' Center for Arctic and Subarctic Development will be created on the basis of the integration of the North-Eastern Federal University and other scientific institutes and higher education organizations, scientific organizations and their cooperation with organizations operating in the real sector of the economy. The new center will ensure the competitiveness of research and development of Yakut scientists and the training of qualified personnel.
As the authorities of Yakutia noted, the goal of creating a research and educational center is to generate scientific knowledge of global and macro-regional importance, based on the co-evolution of social, natural and technical systems, their transformation into the practice of education, human capital and science and innovation activity. Ecology and climate, industrial development, including the geology of the mainland Arctic, engineering structures, transport and energy - these are the main directions of applied research of the new center.
According to the goals of the ‘Science’ national project, in 2024 Russia should enter the top five leading countries of the world, carrying out research and development in areas determined by the priorities of scientific and technological development. As part of the national project, a world-class research and educational center should be created in the Arctic region of the country - such an order was given by President Vladimir Putin.
